pizza. It may already be a cliché, but it is true: Italians are experts in

Try the
Cacciucco for something new. It is a famous fish stew made by Italians, who add
both different types of fish and shellfish and cook them in wine combined with
tomatoes and also chili peppers. The taste is brilliant and it certainly won’t
be like anything else you’ve eaten before.

For a very
healthy dessert eat some Torta Caprese. It has chocolate, almonds, eggs,
butter, sugar and sometimes even a little bit of liqueur for a more powerful

What made this locket so special? Well, I have to say that my choice of photos were spot on. Instead of opting for more conventional choices like our wedding photos, I chose to enclose three photos we took together as high school sweethearts. What’s the appeal?  Well, how about 13 National Parks, 40 Conservation areas and 29 game reserves?  Tanzania totals 342,000 square miles – 25 separate regions of mostly unspoiled natural splendor.  Home to the tallest (at 19,336-feet) freestanding mountain in the world, Mt. Kilimanjaro is simply breathtaking – well the photos I’ve seen. I’m sure it’s even more grand and impressive in person!  Where else in the world can you go for a trek through the mountains with elephant, leopards, buffalo, antelope and primates?! 

Then you have the Ngotongoro Conservation Area and the Ngotongoro crater which has been called Africa’s “Garden of Eden”.  Evidently most Tanzania safari tourists are in search of the “Big Five”, rhinoceros, lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo, all of which call the Ngotongoro crater “home”, alongside wildebeest , zebra and gazelle (among other species).  Talk about a one stop viewing shop!

Of course Tanzania is also home to the Serengeti with 5,700 square miles of wild and wonderful scenery.  According to the Tanzania Parks website, the Serengeti has recently been called the “7th world wide wonder, famed for its annual migration, when some six million hooves pound the open plains, as more than 200,000 zebra and 300,000 Thomson’s gazelle join the wildebeest’s trek for fresh grazing.” That sounds like a sight worth seeing.  From a safe distance anyway!

As an incredible bonus, if you tire of mountains and plains, Zanzibar (Island) and its gorgeous white sand beaches, warm water, coral reefs and rich history is just a short distance away. 

I will definitely be adding Tanzania to my list of potential vacation destinations!

Lions live in groups known as prides. There are generally about twelve to fifteen lions that make up a pride, and they largely consist of females and her cubs, along with one or two males. The females are the hunters while the males protect the prides. Where once there had been approximately 200,000 lions on the continent, now there are less than 30,000, and most of them are protected in these reserves. The few lions that remain in the wild are vulnerable both to hunters and local farmers, who see them as liabilities. Because lions are likely to attack both livestock and people, conservationists are working both to educate the locals and to protect the lions in a number of ways, including gathering them into these vast preserve environments. If you are taking an african lion safari, you do not have to worry about feeling like you’re in a zoo … the preserves are enormous, and you will not be able to tell that you are not out in the wild except for your knowledge that there are far more animals in this safe environment then you would find in the unprotected exterior.

Over time, downspouts can get
clogged and gutters can fill up with leaves and twig. Cleaning your

start. I know someone who fell off their his roof while cleaning the
gutters. So there is some danger in the task. But it’s worth it.

Why clean my gutters?

Mosquitoes live and breed in standing water. The water in your gutters
that’s just sitting there because the gutters are so full of leaves and
twigs is the ideal home for the aforementioned mosquitoes. Why an ideal
home? Because it’s near a source of food. Your blood and your families
blood is one of the reasons the mosquitoes want to move in. Moving to a
less dramatic reason. Clogged gutters are bad for your roof and can
damage your house.

How do I clean my gutters?

If you
have grown up children or nephews or friendly neighbors that is always
the ideal approach. However, if you absolutely must clean them
yourselves I recommend the following procedure.

Ladder (unless you plan to climb out a window on to the roof, which for insurance reasons, I do not recommend)

Method:

Start at the point farthest from the downspout. With gloved hands fish
out any heavy debris spray like a lunatic. You want to direct the stream
of water straight along the gutter, flushing out as much as possible.
The closer you get to the downspout the heavier the mess will get. You
can fish the muck out with your gloved hand or if you’re lazy like me
you can use the patient water blasting method. It’s worth adding that
before you start the undertaking you might want to ask yourself if it’s
time for new gutters. The average lifespan on gutters is under thirty

Some careers are absolutely legitimate, such as the ones listed above. Do:

–Understand the purpose of a cleanroom.

Businesses need cleanrooms because any type of contaminant can damage the work processes going on within them. –Use appropriate documentation materials, like cleanroom-friendly pens, cleanroom notebooks and cleanroom paper.

Don’t:

–Don’t move around in a way that’s rapid, sudden or jerky, once you’re in the cleanroom.

This can shed more particles than controlled, even movements.

–Don’t wear any cleanroom gear that is dirty or soiled.

You’ll need to don fresh shoe coverings, gloves and caps or hair covers each and every time you enter.  Items like smocks and coveralls can be re-used in many cleanrooms, but have them regularly cleaned or replaced.

–Don’t eat, drink or smoke in the cleanroom.

While this one seems obvious, it bears mentioning. The absent-mindedness of toting a water bottle into a cleanroom happens and can introduce unnecessary particles into the room.

–Don’t touch anything until you are in the cleanroom, once prepped and dressed.

Your actions should be like those of a surgeon heading into the operating room.  If you must come into contact with a surface or object before entering, be sure to replace the clothing that touched the non-cleanroom surface, such as a glove.

But there was so much more to my aunt than that! She volunteered with a local animal shelter, and at the holiday season, participated in coat drives, toy drives, and soup kitchen cooking. He followed that girl (name lost in history, probably at the urgings of Aunt Renee, whom he married a few years later) to a dance at the local Elk’s Club, and, to impress her, purchased a bunch of raffle tickets. When he won a 27 volume encyclopedia, he gave it to Mom (his sister). After all, what was a bachelor to do with something like that? My older brother was already around and I was “in the oven,” so Uncle Joe’s unsuccessful love life contributed to our education.

Encyclopedias

The oldest encyclopedia in recorded history is the Naturalis Historia (Natural History), which was written by Pliny the Elder and published around the year 77 C.E. (Common Era).  This massive document was the model for encyclopedias that came after.

Modern encyclopedias first appeared in the 17^th century. They were structured after the fashion of dictionaries, but focused on factual and historical data rather than word meaning and etymology.

Free, online encyclopedias have been around almost since the internet began, dating back to Usenet in 1993, where the concept of Interpedia was first proposed. However, a functional and stable online encyclopedia did not exist until Nupedia, which lasted from 2000 to 2003. Nupedia was founded by Jimmy Wales and edited by Larry Sanger. It was extensively peer-reviewed.

Enter the Wiki

The “wiki” was invented in 1994 by Ward Cunningham for the purpose of software development. He ran the first wiki on c2.com and named it “WikiWikiWeb.” As most people probably know by now, the word “wiki” is the Hawaiian word for “quick,” and expresses the rapidity with which a wiki can be updated. Unlike with the peer review process of Nupedia, wikis can be edited by anyone with a web browser.

The basic features of a wiki are that it is web-based, it can be edited by anyone, and a page history is maintained. The concept is that, although errors can appear, they are rapidly corrected, and the speed and openness of the platform outweighs the downside of occasional inaccuracies (which, again, can be quickly fixed).

Wikipedia: Wiki Meets Encyclopedia

The original “wiki” was created for the purpose of computer programming, and subsequent wikis were aligned with that intention. However, with the introduction of Wikipedia on January 15, 2001, the marriage of the wiki format to the purpose of knowledge-based articles was achieved.  Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger of Nupedia launched the project, hoping that the open-source wiki model would make for a more rapid introduction of articles. Bomis, which underwrote Nupedia, donated the bandwidth and San Diego-based server to Wikipedia.  Bomis employees and staff contributed greatly to the new project.

Although Wikipedia was first conceived as a side-project to Nupedia, it quickly overtook the original.

The English-language Wikipedia passed 100,000 articles in 2003, and by the end of 2004, there were over one million articles. By the end of 2011, there were over 3.8 million articles on the English Wikipedia.

Among the many foreign language versions of Wikipedia (known as “forks”), the largest are the Spanish language (Enciclopedia Libre), German ( Wikiweise), and Russian ( WikiZnanie).
